
The singer, whose hits include “…Baby One More Time” and “I’m a Slave 4 U,” has been playing a series of shows this summer in Europe, including in Britain, France and Sweden.
The July 24 show in Warsaw was canceled because of a contractual dispute that could not be resolved, a statement released by her publicist said Wednesday.
“The Circus Starring Britney Spears will not be touring Warsaw, Poland during the 63-city world tour. To Britney’s great dismay, the performance scheduled to take place in Warsaw, Poland on Friday, July 24th has been canceled by the Polish promoter due to a contractual dispute that was unable to be resolved,” the statement reads. “Britney regrets that she will not be visiting Poland’s capital during her world tour. She apologizes to all her loyal fans for the cancellation and hopes to visit the culturally exciting city of Warsaw in the near future.”
Phone calls to the concert organizer in Warsaw, Agencja Akwarium, went unanswered. An official Web site devoted to Spears’ Polish stop, www.britneykoncert.pl, said only that the show was canceled and that it would soon post information for ticket holders.
Britney regrets that she will not be visiting Poland’s capital during her world tour. She apologizes to all her loyal fans for the cancellation and hopes to visit the culturally exciting city of Warsaw in the near future.
“The Circus Starring Britney Spears” kicked-off in New Orleans, LA on March 3, “The pop star…pulled out all the stops before a sell-out crowd of 16,400 to launch her much anticipated world tour,” stated Reuters. To date, the Circus is the highest grossing tour of 2009 in North America.
The Warsaw concert was to have been Spears’ second-to-last show in Europe before the “Circus” tour returns to the United States. She is scheduled to play at the 02 Arena in the German capital, Berlin, on July 26.
The 27-year-old “Womanizer” singer is scheduled to embark on an Australian tour in November after performing a series of shows in the U.S. and Canada. Britney Spears is one of the top-selling artists of the last decade, and to date she has sold in excess of 63 million albums worldwide: …Baby One More Time (1999); Oops!… I Did It Again (2000); Britney (2001); In The Zone (2003) and Blackout (2007). Her current album Circus released on her birthday, December 2, 2008, debuted No. 1 in six countries including Canada, Switzerland, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, and Top 10 in an additional seven countries.
