BRITNEY SPEARS apparently isn’t a fan of cigarette smoke - or any other kind of smoke, for that matter - while she’s performing on stage. On a show at VANCOUVER, British Columbia last Wednesday (April 08, 2009), she dramatically stormed off stage for an hour after complaining that the air in the venue had become too smoky. Fans were stunned when the star halted her show after just three songs, leaving the audience waiting for more than 20 minutes for an explanation. Some audience even booed at the show. An announcement was then made, reportedly ordering the audience to stop smoking marijuana and cigarettes in the arena as it was “unsafe” for Spears to perform. According to the Vancouver Sun, a female voice announced to the anxious crowd, “The building is awfully smoky. It is uncomfortable for everyone on stage, including Ms. Spears. Please extinguish all cigarettes—this is a non-smoking building, and the show will resume when the smoke on the stage is cleared.” After a further 40 minutes, the Toxic hitmaker Britney Spears finally re-emerged wearing her hot police-woman outfit. After she returned and ended the show, Spears - who has been to rehab and is on the comeback trail after a long stretch of troubles - told the crowd, “Thanks Vancouver. You were wonderful. Drive safe. Don’t smoke weed!” in an ironic tone. A representative for the star has since explained that the glitch was caused by poor air circulation. And concert organizers at Orca Bay Sports and Entertainment denied marijuana smoke was to blame, insisting audience members were puffing cigarettes. Britney and her team have released the following statement on her official site: “We want to apologize to all the fans who attended our Vancouver show tonight for the brief pause in Britney’s set. Crew members above the stage became ill due to a ventilation issue.
